Construction projects in the coastal and marine environments are increasingly subject to stringent regulation.  In EU member state waters these include the Habitats Regulations, putting the burden of proof onto developers and regulators to demonstrate that their proposals will not adversely affect protected wildlife and sites.  Marine mammals are a key component of these protected wildlife, and SMRU Ltd is able to provide authoritative, solution-based advice and services to developers in order to ensure their activities are able to proceed efficiently in line with regulatory requirements.

Our scientists are experienced in devising mitigation measures and schemes, and ensuring that marine mammal sections in EIAs (including advice supporting Appropriate Assessments) for construction projects are definitive.  We work closely with our clients, providing a bespoke and dedicated advisory service to ensure project risks are clearly identified and managed, and the project team is able to liaise with regulators and the public.
