Wind Power Renewable Energy Case Study: Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm
Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited (BOWL), a joint venture between SSE Renewables (75%) and SeaEnergy Renewables (25%), proposes to construct up to 184 offshore wind turbines at a site in the outer Moray Firth, NE Scotland.
What is the challenge in this wind power renewable energy project?
The consent application requires a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment and the production of an Environmental Statement.
What has SMRU Ltd delivered?
SMRU Ltd is contributing to this process by providing specialist marine mammal advice to the EIA Co-ordinator and BOWL. In addition, we have reviewed existing data on marine mammal species present in the area, identified data gaps and proposed appropriate approaches to fill these, and are currently working alongside the University of Aberdeen developing novel acoustic and modelling methods to assess the likelihood of exchange between local Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and the proposed wind farm site.
