Dr Lindsay Porter (Senior Research Scientist)

Lindsay runs SMRU Ltd’s office in South East Asia. She has spent the last 17 years in Asia, primarily in the South China Sea, studying populations of Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins (Sousa chinensis) and other tropical delphinids.  

Her PhD at the University of Hong Kong focused on aspects of the ecology of the Hong Kong population of Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins and has continued their study in addition to developing research projects across Asia.

Lindsay has initiated many marine mammal programs with NGO offices and government authorities on the continent to continue research, develop educational and public awareness materials and to provide advice on mitigation and conservation measures.  She has conducted primary research and recommendations for further studies and conservation in China, Indonesia, East Timor, Vietnam, Australia, Malaysia and the Maldives.  She also works with various academic institutes, including the University of Hong Kong, The University of New South Wales, Australia, and the University Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia.
