Gordon Hastie (Senior Research Scientist)

Gordon has extensive experience studying the behavioural ecology and physiology of marine predators, and has developed the practical, management and analytical skills required to lead field and lab based research programs. Specific research expertise includes:

  • Marine Mammal Acoustic Behaviour: Studies of the functional mechanisms of cetacean and pinniped calls and passive acoustic techniques for detecting and tracking cetaceans
  • Marine Mammal Diving Behaviour and Physiology: A range of studies into the diving behaviour of wild marine mammals and led a marine mammal diving physiology research program in Canada
  • Cetacean Ecology: PhD in the functional mechanisms of cetacean habitat use and behaviour
  • Anthropogenic Impacts on Marine Mammals: Lead researcher on studies of the influence of OGP noise and vessel traffic on cetacean behaviour
