Over 11 years of experience studying marine mammals including:

  • Marine Mammal Monitoring: fieldwork experience includes boat based and aerial line-transect surveys of marine mammals. Also experience using a variety of field methods such as photo-id, biopsy sampling and acoustics to study different species in a range of oceans and habitats. Experience of analytical work using distance sampling and statistical modeling to estimate abundance and survival rates.
  • Cetacean Ecology: MSc on abundance estimation of Hector’s dolphin; PhD using photo-ID data to model survival rate of Hector’s dolphin.
  • Anthropogenic Impacts on Marine Mammals:  Studies on cetacean bycatch in New Zealand and reviews on the efficacy of pingers.
  • Marine Mammal Observer during seismic survey in the Gulf of Mexico and Western Australia.
  • NZ Boatmasters certificate
