Who we work with

SMRU Ltd has been developed to make the most of our strategic relationships with the very best scientists, business advisors and field workers available to marine environmental industries.

First and foremost, our relationship with the NERC Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU), a Public Sector Research Establishment, enables us to make use of SMRU’s world leading research facilities and staff.  This includes access to their seal tagging fabrication and data interpretation team, and use of staff on a commercial basis through SMRU Ltd’s project management vehicle.  Our role as a conduit for commercialisation funding in rounds 3 & 4 of the PSRE funding process cements this relationship, and our position as wholly owned by the University of St Andrews allows us full access to Intellectual Property held within SMRU (and other departments) that would otherwise be unavailable to industry.

We also have strategic relationships with departments in the University of St Andrews, in particular the Centre for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling (CREEM).  This relationship allows us to access the very best global modellers and data analysis experts, providing unrivalled ability to analyse complex and low confidence biological datasets.  SMRU Ltd is also developing links with the commercial capacity of the University of St Andrews’ Geography department, providing access to state-of-the-art sediment sampling tools and techniques, and the Schools of Economics and Business, enabling us to develop our technical Due Diligence capacity.

SMRU Ltd also provides services of the Sediment Ecology Research Group (SERG) as part of our integrated project management capacity, enabling us to cover a wider range of coastal and marine ecological themes.

In order for us to provide the full spectrum of services we also work with a number of freelance consultants including DMP Statistical Solutions.
